Jeremy vanDieman grew up as concertmaster and soloist with the New England Youth Ensemble, operating then out of Thayer Conservatory of Atlantic Union College, S. Lancaster, MA, and directed by his Teacher and mentor, Dr. Virginia-Gene Rittenhouse. He was privileged to perform in some 27 countries and territories on 5 continents, with the highlight being a 1975 solo performance for President Gerald Ford, Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and Communist Party Leader Edward Gierek at Wilanow Palace, Warsaw, Poland. Other highlights related to those early NEYE years include a 2002 solo performance for Archbishop Felixberto Camacho Flores in Agana, Guam, and an Assistant Concertmaster appointment in a production of "Song of the Redeemed", a large-scale oratorio composed by Dr. Rittenhouse, in Carnegie Hall, NY, in 2004. As an alumnus on a 2008 NEYE tour, Jeremy was a soloist at the Salzburg Festival in Austria, the Aegean Festival in Greece, and in a special presentation for Her Royal Highness, Princess Siriwanwareenareerat (“Glorious Light”) of Thailand, in Bangkok, Thailand. He was also a 1st violinist in a concert of the chamber music of John Rutter in Windsor Castle, England, under the baton of John Rutter.
Jeremy has been a featured violin soloist for Child Find Alberta, as well as the
Canadian-Austrian Society in Calgary under the auspices of Austrian Ambassador, Otto Ditz and Alberta Premier, Ralph Klein. He has free-lanced with a number of local and regional ensembles including Calgary Opera, Red Deer Symphony, Okanagan Symphony, Kamloops Symphony, and Lethbridge Symphony. He has been a sectional 1st Violin with the Kootenay Symphony in Cranbrook, B.C (1996-2016), as well as Assistant Concertmaster (2016-2020) and soloist. He has been Director of Junior Strings at the Conservatory of Mount Royal University in Calgary (2008 - 2019), and has twice served as Director of the Advanced String Institute of Alberta Suzuki String Institute in Calgary (2006, 2007). Jeremy has adjudicated in music festivals throughout Alberta and B.C., including the B.C. Provincial Festival in Chilliwack in 2013, and the B.C. Provincial Festival in Victoria in 2018. Jeremy is also a long time Teacher in the Calgary area, with several of his students winning on local and provincial levels, with one winning first place on a national level in the Canadian Music Competition for both 2012 and 2013. A few of his students have completed or are completing university degrees in violin performance, with some choosing Teaching as a career. Jeremy has been an RCM Examiner since 2011.
