Canadian pianist, teacher and composer Graham Yates has lived in Texas since 2014 where he owns North Austin Piano Studio and produces house concerts. He loves to connect with audiences and students alike to create meaningful experiences through music of many kinds.

As a performer, he has been a featured soloist with the Chilliwack Symphony Orchestra and toured with Russian-Canadian pianist Alexander Tselyakov who was his teacher at Brandon University in Manitoba. In Texas, Mr. Yates has been a pianist for Spotlight on Opera at Texas State University where he directed the touring children’s operas, LOLA – Local Opera Local Artists in Austin with whom he performed La Femme Bohème while sailing on the beautiful Lady Bird Lake, and One Ounce Opera in Austin where he premiered micro-operas in a warehouse. Currently he is the pianist for Wellspring United Methodist Church in Georgetown, TX, and occasionally hosts house concerts in his home that feature himself or other artists.

Mr. Yates runs North Austin Piano Studio and teaches 35 students weekly, who participate in recitals, masterclasses and examinations. Mr. Yates adjudicates and gives masterclasses in Texas as well as all over his native British Columbia, including at “The Provincials” in 2016.

He has performed his compositions in programs throughout Austin, in South Padre Island and in Louisiana. These include piano solo offertories, choir anthems and Christmas piano trios – all suitable for church settings – cabaret-style song cycles, and a short opera.

Mr. Yates loves to share his adventures in music-making with students, audiences and colleagues and wants everyone to know that creativity opens doors to travel, friendship and self-development.
